Exploring Anarchy

http://c4ss.org

For the ancient Chinese masters, political awakening was complementary to spiritual awakening. In the martial arts, they saw more than a tool for war, that ultimate form of political conflict — they also saw a vehicle for reaching a superior state of consciousness, of connection with the cosmos that would spontaneously mold a virtuous character for the warrior. They called it the state of “effortless action” (wu wei), and was considered to be indispensable for reaching sociopolitical harmony, peace and prosperity among peoples.

Survivalist "Citadel" project starts in Idaho

http://iiicitadel.blogspot.com

The purpose of the Citadel is survival. Staying alive. Making it through an expected period of social/economic/political collapse. Coming out the other side with a civil society intact. One thing we would all ask af anyone coming here is to remember why we are considering such a venture: Rightful Liberty. We want to live with neighbors who live and let live. We want to live with neighbors who will allow us to be us, without running to the Nanny State.

Slab City, Living Life Off the Grid in California's Badlands

http://www.time.com

Slab City...is a squatters' camp deep in the badlands of California's poorest county, where the road ends and the sun reigns. These days, their numbers are growing thanks to a modest influx of recession refugees...attracted by do-it-yourself, rent-free living beyond the reach of electricity, running water and the law. Last Free Place in America" lives up to its nickname.

Ye Olde Rebel of the Week: Lysander Spooner

http://silverunderground.com

Today happens to be the birthday of one of my all time favorite rebels. So, I thought I’d take us back in time and declare Lysander Spooner the rebel of this week in 1808.

Lysander Spooner was a nineteenth century American political philosopher, pamphleteer, entrepreneur, abolitionist and individualist anarchist. Spooner advocated what he called the “Science of Justice” which held that the initiation of coercion against an individual or their property was a natural crime, but so-called crimes that violated man-made statutes but had no victim were no crime at all.

LP of Florida wants to distance itself from anarchist/voluntarists!

http://www.libertyflorida.org

An article in the Libertarian Party of Florida's online newsletter, entitled "The Libertarian Problem with Anarchy", by Tom Rhodes. I find this pretty sad... back when I was involved with the LP in the 90s, it was largely a group of anarchists/voluntarists who hadn't yet completely given up on inside-the-system activism. I guess the LP really is dead, huh?

Same-sex Marriage leads to Anarchy

One more reason to allow same-sex marriage? Former New York Giants wide receiver David Tyree spoke out against gay marriage Wednesday, claiming it is the first step towards "anarchy." If so... then what are we waiting for?!

F.B.I. agents get leeway to push privacy bounds

http://www.msnbc.msn.com

FBI Defines Press: The manual clarifies the definition of who qualifies for extra protection as a legitimate member of the news media in the Internet era: prominent bloggers would count, but not people who have low-profile blogs. And it will limit academic protections only to scholars who work for institutions based in the United States.

Anarchists Have Civil Liberties Too

http://www.guardian.co.uk

The problem with the contemporary media narrative on protest is that, in its refusal to understand the nuances of anarchism, it is using the term as a euphemism for "dangerous", "violent" or "bad".... The dangers of this way of thinking hardly need explaining. There are flickers of McCarthyism in the way the state is currently dealing with those it perceives as threatening. Potential anarchists are intimidated and smeared, and denied liberty on the grounds of nebulous and almost Orwellian charges.

Why We Couldn't Abolish Slavery Then and Can't Abolish Government Now

http://www.independent.org

The same ideas once trotted out to justify opposition to the abolition of slavery are now routinely trotted out to justify opposition to the abolition of government (as we know it). Libertarian anarchists bold enough to have publicly advanced their proposal for abolishing the state will have encountered many, if not all, of the arguments used for centuries to prop up slavery. Thus, we may make a parallel list, as shown in the table’s second column.

Non-Compliance Topples Arizona Traffic-Cam Program

http://www.associatedcontent.com

In January of this year Arizona began considering the shut-down a state-wide traffic cam program. This is because there was wide-spread non-compliance. Many, many citizens of Arizona simply refused to pay the tickets that came in the mail.

Now the verdict is in. They shut it down. The citizens won -- not by fighting the state, but by ignoring the state.
