http://www.bloomberg.com

"A growing body of medical research at leading universities and government laboratories suggests that processed foods and sugary drinks made by the likes of PepsiCo Inc. and Kraft Foods Inc. (KFT) aren’t simply unhealthy. They can hijack the brain in ways that resemble addictions to cocaine, nicotine and other drugs."

People think having a job is a government-preserved right

http://www.workers.org

This article was posted in the comments section of this boing_boing story about a Starbucks barista that posted a job rant on YouTube for which he was later fired (http://boingboing.net/2011/09/21/baristas-starbucks-rant-song-gets-him-f... ).

I thought the FTL family would enjoy parsing the lunacy of a doctrine that many out there fully buy into.
Read it and you'll enjoy gems like this:

"In fact, the right to a job is a matter of law—and has been for 62 years!"

The 6 Most Horrifying Lies The Food Industry is Feeding You

http://www.cracked.com

If there's one thing in the world the food industry is dead set against, it's allowing you to actually maintain some level of control over what you eat. See, they have this whole warehouse full of whatever they bought last week when they were drunk that they need to get rid of -- and they will do so by feeding it all to you. And it doesn't matter how many pesky "lists of ingredients" and consumer protections stand between you and them.

Americans work the most

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com

Do you feel like you have little time for hikes, family time, or other fun activities? Are American marriages falling apart because there is little time to spend nurturing them, since so many Americans spend so much time working? Do Americans have time to grow/cook organic foods to eat healthier? Maybe it is because Americans work the most. At what age are some Europeans retiring? Is there any hope of retirement at all for some Americans?

Libertarianism has been touted as the wave of America’s political future for many years, generally with more enthusiasm than evidence. But there are some tangible signs that Americans’ attitudes are in fact moving in that direction.

Consumer Report: Verizon FiOS sometimes not ACTUALLY Fiber?

http://landofbile.com

...I do some Googling around and confirm that in some multi dwelling units they run fiber to the building but not to the apartments. They use VDSL and the existing phonelines to get the data connection to the unit. I ask the installer why not use the existing coax. Especially since they had to run it anyway and it is spec’ed appropriately. He didn’t know.

Are Teachers Required to Join Teacher Unions?

http://712educators.about.com

Many people are under the impression that public unions are mandatory, which is simply not true.

Question: Are Teachers Required to Join Teacher Unions?
Teacher unions were created as a way to combine the voices of teachers so that they could better bargain with school districts and protect their own interests.

Answer: Many new teachers wonder if they will be required to join a union when they get their first teaching job. The short answer to this question is "no." By law, a teacher's union cannot force teachers to join

Sick FUCK doctor Murders patient & 7 newborn Babies

http://www.cnn.com

Allegedly running what the prosecutor calls "a house of horrors," a Philadelphia physician, Kermit Barron Gosnell, was charged Wednesday with murder and other offenses related to illegal, late-term abortions.

The doctor is accused of causing the death of one of his female patients and killing seven viable babies in illegal abortions, Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams said.

The babies were born alive in the sixth, seventh and eighth months of pregnancy, but their spinal cords were allegedly severed with scissors, Williams said in a statement.

http://news.yahoo.com

You are told that to make it in life, you must go to college. You work hard to get there. You or your parents drain savings or take out huge loans to pay for it all.

And you end up learning ... not much.

A study of more than 2,300 undergraduates found 45 percent of students show no significant improvement in the key measures of critical thinking, complex reasoning and writing by the end of their sophomore years....

Libertarian 101: Aren't all politicians crooks?

http://www.examiner.com

I continue to receive defeatist attitudes about how to combat the Leviathan state. Many feel that we have a lawless political class and that there is absolutely no way to reign it in outside of complete revolution or bankruptcy. And admittedly neither are very good options, both would cause much pain to many people.

This is a dangerous meme that reflects exactly what the ruling class wants, complete disengagement from the political system by the most informed among us.
