Federal authorities are investigating a fire at the construction site of a mosque in Tennessee, as well as reports of gunshots as community members gathered at the site. ATF said an accelerant was found and they believe it was arson.

A Seattle man punched a turban wearing 7-11 clerk in the head yelling "You're not even American, you're Al-Qaeda. Go back to your country." (Sikhs are, notably, not Muslim.)

In January of this year Arizona began considering the shut-down a state-wide traffic cam program. This is because there was wide-spread non-compliance. Many, many citizens of Arizona simply refused to pay the tickets that came in the mail.

Now the verdict is in. They shut it down. The citizens won -- not by fighting the state, but by ignoring the state.

...it appears that some of the constitutionalist wing of the Republican Party (Ron Paul supporters, mostly) — including some Tea Party activists — felt unrepresented at the previous Maine Republican Party Convention and planned to make themselves a known quantity at the Convention this weekend.

Everybody knows that people in the past were insane. They wore funny hats, used words like "wherefore," and don't get us started on the pants.

But some of the historic anecdotes we love repeating again and again simply aren't true. As convenient as it may be to think of our ancestors as murder-happy torture enthusiasts, they were crazy, but they weren't that crazy.

I'm astounded that this article appeared in Time (or at least on their website). They rationally propose the fact that college might not be for everyone, as well as talk about the underground economy:

"Faced with the burden of financing the decades-long retirement of aging boomers, many of the young embrace a new underground economy, a largely untaxed archipelago of communes, co-ops, and kibbutzim that passively resist the power of the granny state while building their own little utopias."

An excellent essay from anarcho-libertarian Eric S. Raymond about "What Bearing Weapons Teaches About the Good Life." Eric makes a convincing argument that even pacifists and the like show own firearms to help them understand the violence of the state and remind them of their own moral capability as a sovereign capable of the dignity of free man.

I have always taken it as a good thing that libertarians are detested by both the left and the right. To me it is proof positive that we libertarians are in the right. After all, both the left and the right are fundamentally the same – authoritarian statists who wish to use the force of government to make society in their own images and to compel others to live in ways that they approve of.
