In order to recognize the American spirit of loyalty and the sacrifices that so many have made for our Nation, the Congress, by Public Law 85-529 as amended, has designated May 1 of each year as “Loyalty Day.” On this day, let us reaffirm our allegiance to the United States of America, our Constitution, and our founding values.

There are few philosophers whose very name provokes more violent responses than Karl Marx. His stern face, framed by a mass of gray hair, symbolizes for many Americans the costly battles of the 20th century: battles against communism, socialism, and authoritarianism fought in defense of democracy and free-market capitalism. As successive generations of Americans waged those fights, the philosophical disputes at the core of the conflicts embedded themselves into the American soul.

1 in 20 East Germans were informants. "The Lives of Others" is a sad and unsettling movie about what results when Soviet statism is executed with German efficiency: The Stasi. Funny how much of East German communist assets like this museum were homesteaded, and now the "kindler, gentler" western state wants to seize it all over again. Never again!
