Read more »A St. Paul, Minnesota family claims in a lawsuit that police officers who conducted a wrong-door raid on their home shot their dog, and then forced their three handcuffed children to sit near the dead pet while officers ransacked the home. The lawsuit, which names Ramsey County, the Dakota County Drug Task Force, and the DEA, and asks for $30 million in civil rights violations and punitive damages after a wrong-door raid, also claims that the officers kicked the children and deprived one of them of her diabetes medication.

Massachusetts special-needs facility is believed to be the only one in the world that uses 'aversive therapy' in treating children - The UN's special rapporteur on torture has made a formal approach to the US government over a special-needs school near Boston that inflicts electric shocks on autistic children as a form of behavioural control. Juan Mendez has told the Guardian that he has opened discussions with the US mission to the UN in Geneva as a first step towards investigating the school.

A teenager is arrested for wanting to protect his family. A neglectful mother was reported for endangering her 2 year old. When police decided to remove this child, her son distracted the officers allowing the mother to escape. We're not given details of the 'distraction', but I guess it was only a plea to not loose his sibling. He is being held at $2500 and faced with allegations that could cost $10K & TEN years in prison! The real reason, it seems, that the mother escaped was because she was allowed to get items for the child in her house on her own.

A western Indiana school district wants to give its bus drivers the authority to search students for weapons or drugs.
The Tribune-Star reported that a Vigo County School Corp. proposal would allow the drivers to search a student and the student's belongings if there is an immediate threat of harm or danger to those on the bus.

Marco Wanderwitz, a conservative member of parliament for the German state of Saxony, said it is unfair and unsustainable for the taxpayer to carry the entire cost of treating obesity-related illnesses in the public health system.
The German teachers association recently called for school kids to be weighed each day, The Daily Telegraph said. The fat kids could then be reported to social services, who could send them to health clinics.
