The appeals court also found that restricting distribution of literature to jurors summoned for jury duty was legally permissible, and that Schmidter’s conviction for contempt on those grounds should be upheld. Schmidter was re-sentenced today to serve 145 days in the Orange County Jail, and was immediately taken into custody.

Read more »On August 19th Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer announced that he will drop the charges against the recently arrested Food Not Bombs activists. This includes 25 people charged with violating Orlando’s Large Group Feeding Ordinance as well as two trespass arrests.

The FNB group, a few homeless individuals and several individuals from the Orlando Liberty Activist crew visited the City Council meeting earlier this week with great success. The result .. The City Of Orlando has agreed to let FNB share food on its steps, without a permit and without continued arrests, just so long as they don't share food in the park.

In the month of June 2011 alone, 26 peaceful people have been arrested at an approximate cost of $3000 per person per arrest to the tax payers of Orlando. Not including the cost of actually trying these people in court and the time of jurors. But since it’s not the OPD’s money, it yours, this is how they feel best to spend their time and your money.
