Texas Governor Rick Perry - who is seeking the Republican nomination for US president - has said he would consider sending American troops into Mexico to combat drug-related violence.

A federal appeals court upheld the conviction and 10-year sentence Wednesday of a medical marijuana advocate who grew 32,000 pot plants for patients and fellow Rastafarians on his land in Lake County.

Carrying less than half an ounce of pot is no longer a crime in Connecticut, but there are people who are still being prosecuted for doing exactly that.

The reason is they were busted before Connecticut's new decriminalization law took effect this month and some state prosecutors are pushing for convictions in some of those cases.
