When most of us think of weapons of mass destruction, we think of nuclear bombs, or nerve gas, or biological agents. Accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was charged with using a WMD after he and his brother allegedly detonated a bomb made from a pressure cooker. How is this possible? Well, as is often the case, the common sense definition and the legal definition are not the same. The "legal definition" smacks of "Thought Crime" to me. To my mind, if you kill a bunch of people, it doesn't matter what weapon you used. it's the results which count....

Read more »A Maryland state senator has crafted a bill to curb the zeal of public school officials who are tempted to suspend students as young as kindergarten for having things — or talking about things, or eating things — that represent guns, but aren’t actually anything like real guns. The bill also includes a section mandating counseling for school officials who fail to distinguish between guns and things that resemble guns. School officials who fail to make such a distinction more than once would face discipline themselves.

Cody Wilson, like many Texan gunsmiths, is fast-talkin’ and fast-shootin’—but unlike his predecessors in the Lone Star State, he’s got 3D printing to help him with his craft. Wilson’s nonprofit organization, Defense Distributed, released a video this week showing a gun firing off over 600 rounds—illustrating what is likely to be the first wave of semi-automatic and automatic weapons produced by the additive manufacturing process. Last year, his group famously demonstrated that it could use a 3D-printed “lower” for an AR-15—but the gun failed after six rounds.

Justice Carlos Lucero wrote on behalf of a three-judge panel of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Lucero cited case law dating to the 1800s that put restrictions on walking around in public with a gun.
