Reason Magazine: "Why I prefer French Health Care"

http://reason.com

Here's a guy on Reason.com, a prominent libertarian publication, talking about how he prefers France's single payer system to what we have in the US. That is to say, perhaps the free market is the best scenario, but the alternative isn't necessarily near the disaster we claim it to be. So far, the discussion among libertarians seems to be that European medicine is a disaster, but I've heard plenty of people claim the contrary. Let's give this a fair discussion!

What is a trillion?

http://mikesylvia.wordpress.com

Our government has gotten us accustom to budgets and spending in trillions. I’ve seen graphics that try to show dollar bills (FRaud Notes) stacked like sky scrapers, impressive but lacking. I ran across a piece of information about javascript code which counts time in milliseconds based from 1970. Seconds of time are nice little units we’re pretty familiar with, one Mississippi, two Mississippi …. So, I was born back in 1958; how many trillion seconds have passed since I was born?

If State Assemblyman Felix Ortiz has his way, the only salt added to your meal will come from the chef's tears.

The ebb and flow of gas and electricity into your home contains surprisingly detailed information about your daily life. National Debt: The Apocalypse Overdraft

http://www.cracked.com

The national debt is currently 13.7 trillion dollars (you can round up to 14 if you ignore that piddling little GDP of Denmark). The American people could work together, movie-montage style, collecting every single physical dollar and cent in existence and they'd still have to go to Vegas*, hit the roulette tables, lay it all on black and win. Four times in a row. That's how you know you're doomed - most people crushed by debt imagine cleaning up at the casino OR having all the money in the world. When you need both, you're buggered.
