The annual report by Reporters Without Borders shows the United States fell 27 points on the list due to the many arrests of journalists covering Occupy Wall Street protests.

Wow, it looks like they've finally identified the bad apples that were spoiling the whole bunch! Isn't it exciting? By this time next week, the police will be back to protecting and serving the public once more. Phew! I was worried that "we" were becomming a police state - but this article has set my mind at ease.

Read more »Caddo Parish District 3 Commissioner Michael Williams said after seeing a group of young men at a local Walmart wearing pajama pants that revealed one young man's private parts, he decided to push for an ordinance that would prohibit wearing pajama pants in public. "Pajamas are designed to be worn in the bedroom at night," Williams said. "If you can't (wear pajamas) at the Boardwalk or courthouse, why are you going to do it in a restaurant or in public? Today it's pajamas," Williams said. "Tomorrow it's underwear. Where does it stop?"

The biggest worry is likely to be this: That this program sets out to accomplish the same aims as the National ID scheme. Difference is, rather than trying to get the states to do the heavy lifting, Washington is going to try and compel private companies to do it.
So a campaign has already started to convince Americans to trust the government on this. (insert canned laughter here)

A military veteran returned home after six years to witness the "freedom" he was protecting when he got on a bus near Los Angeles. He witnessed (and recorded) an encounter between police and a mentally handicapped resident wherein the police verbally abused the lady before one of the officers punched her in the face. After the incident, police then attempted to confiscate the video, but the veteran successfully stood his ground. Of course no investigation has begun into this abuse of police power.

Three parents were arrested last week because their children had been truant too many times, officials said Wednesday. The consequences for parents arrested for their child's truancy include up to one year in county jail and/or a $2,000 fine for each child not in compliance. "Sometimes we have to reinforce the idea that it is a crime to not send your child to school," said Chief Deputy DA Karen Bell. "We don't want to take that route, but some parents force our hand and give us no other choice but to file criminal charges."
