Naturally, being a leftist-statist organization, it never occurred to the ACLU that the student's Freedom of Association was actually being violated, rather than a bogus application of Freedom of Religion.

The claim they make is laughable, but they could be making a legitimate one: that the student is being deprived of her freedom to associate with like-minded people in an educational environment. If, by virtue of the tax-for-service scheme, the parents' money had not been already stolen, she would be able to attend a school which had rules she could abide. As a side effect, she would get a *real* education, and we'd probably all have plenty left over to educate the poor, as well.
