Now if they would just support the idea that it is a positive thing that "civilians" be armed (knives, guns, batons, whatever)....
The ability to defend oneself and others if necessary is a cornerstone of self-ownership and a truly free and voluntary society. If you ask the government to do it for you, it will jump at the chance. But it will generally do it poorly and inefficiently, and will always end up overstepping it's mandate in the process.
