Draft of Declaration of Independence named subjects, not citizens

While drafting the Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson wrote "our fellow subjects," then scrubbed it out and replaced it with "our fellow citizens", showing an evolution of thought.

American Colonists considered themselves subjects of the King so this is no real surprise... TJ probably wrote "subjects" on auto-pilot and then realized declaring independence meant no longer being subjects.
