Eric makes a convincing argument that even pacifists and the like show own firearms to help them understand the violence of the state and remind them of their own moral capability as a sovereign capable of the dignity of free man.

Sadly, back in 2001, he caught the "kill the rag-heads" bug, revealing a much deeper Republican streak than I thought he had. I recommend his "The Magic Caldron" and "The Cathedral and the Bazaar" books about free and open source programming.
