'The South Carolina General Assembly finds and declares that the State is experiencing an economic crisis of severe magnitude caused in large part by the unconstitutional substitution of Federal Reserve Notes for silver and gold coin as legal tender in this State. The General Assembly also finds and declares that immediate exercise of the power of the State of South Carolina reserved under Article I, Section 10, Paragraph 1 of the United States Constitution and by the Tenth Amendment, is necessary to protect the safety, health and welfare of the people of this State, by guaranteeing to them a constitutional and economically sound monetary system.'

If I understand their bill correctly, they are trying to "decree" that one ounce of silver is worth about $1.29!

The way I read the bill is that it is declaring that each 371 grains is expressed as worth one dollar. But this dollar will be considered a North Carolina silver dollar. It won't be worth the same amount as a US dollar. The value of a NC silver dollar will then be pegged to the value of silver and its value will fluctuate (with respect to other currencies including the US dollar).

The legislature of SC is still a bunch of politicians willing to use the violence of government to steal from others. It is just in this case they have been ripped off by even more powerful thieves. I will become a believer when SC drops the FRN as the legal tender and allows individuals to create their own gold and silver currencies.
