It’s a horrible thing to have to lose your home, regardless of the circumstance, especially at this time of year. But could you imagine being charged for the efforts to save your home? A couple here in the Albany Area are facing just that situation.

This article may have missed the point. The home was already engulfed in flames on arrival. I doubt the volunteer firefighters were trying to save the house at that point. In cases like this the object of fighting the fire is to save *adjacent* homes rather than the home that is already fully engulfed in flames. Covering things like this is the purpose of insurance.
