The fuzzy pink mustache strapped to the car's front grille is a bit puzzling - and maybe a bit obnoxious - but it's not just for decoration, thankfully.

Cars sport the accessory to show they're official drivers for Lyft, a rideshare service that bills itself as your friend with a car - if you summon your friend with an app.

Users download the app, connect it to a credit card account, and call for a ride. Nearby drivers, who undergo an interview process and a DMV and background check, can come pick them up and give them a ride for a fare that's slightly cheaper than usual cab fare. The service began two months ago and has more than 100 drivers, all in San Francisco.
