The Middle East is on fire, and now it seems the spotlight is on Libya, the land of Omar Mukhtar.
Protests began in Libya on February 15th with just 500 demonstrators in front of a police headquarters. The protest was quashed by police, injuring an estimated 40 participants.
Demonstrations escalated. February 17th was declared a “Day of Rage” in which protesters gathered in town centers across Libya calling for Muammar al-Gaddafi to step down. After he came to power in 1969 the flag of Libya was changed, but protesters have used the old flag as the symbol of the opposition.
