The cops are pretty clear that you can't have the same weapons that they use. Sounds like this guys paranoia isn't too unfounded.

This is absolutely insane - he legally got the permit, he legally purchased the weapons, but because he was in possession of law-enforcement devices (lol, 'infernal devices' - implying the police are the devil) he got even his lawfully-owned weapons stolen (see: confiscated)? This provides plenty of motivation to simply NOT get the proper permits or comply with any police edicts as well. After all, when they have record that you have lots of weapons, they'll just come search your home and rob it. Best to not show up on their radar at all.
