In general, I believe Ron Paul did much better than implied in the reported straw poll results in terms of delegates. Our precinct straw poll had
Ron Paul with 11% support, but at least 25% of the elected state
delegates were Ron Paul supporters and 20% of the county
delegates and alternates were Ron Paul supporters. The nominee gets
selected by delegates, not the popular vote or "straw poll". And
these figures I gave you may be low because I only counted the people
I personally met at Ron Paul caucus training or gave speeches supporting Dr. Paul. The strategy prescribed by the campaign for my precinct was to not openly support Ron Paul (ours is a VERY socially conservative community), but instead to parrot the generic Republican party line, with an emphasis on whatever our own pet issues were. Presumably so we would be more passionate and believable, and lead to more success in being elected as delegates. So there could well have been even more Ron Paul delegates elected that night, and we just don't know. The the campaign is being cagey about revealing the numbers, other than to tell us that it is considerably
more than would be expected if gong by just the straw poll results.

So, while I still don't realistically think Dr. Paul will get the
nomination, he is in a good position to keep spreading the concepts of
liberty, and in the end, that is the real victory.
