If you want the government people to leave you alone you have to stop obeying them. This is a tough thing to do, and it's silly to just jump in the deep end of noncooperation, so saying NO to the census people is a good starter disobedience. Have your video camera or audio recorder handy, and don't be rude or mean. These people are mostly just folks looking for some work; they aren't the government's aggressors. It's so easy to get rapped up in anger over the census/system and take it out on these people when they come knocking on your door. As Ian said, for most these people it's just a job and they more than likely aren't familiar with the system the way we see it. They probably think what they're doing is honorable. This guy seems like a really nice person. I dislike the notion that someone would be nasty to this man or any other person working for the census who demonstrated a certain level of mutual respect. And Of course, turning people against you can only hurt the cause. I hope people have the opportunity to see how Ian handled the situation and act in a similar fashion.
