Shapes: Rhombus vs. Trapezoid

On last night's show Mark incorrectly defined a Rhombus, saying that it has two parallel sides and two "pointing towards each other." He went on to say that it annoys him when people incorrectly define shapes to Jack. What Mark was talking about is actually a Trapezoid. A Rhombus is what most people refer to as a diamond.

Mark got all kinds of things wrong here. A rectangle is a 4 sided figure with 4 right angles. A square is a rectangle. A rectangle does not have to be oblong. A quadrilateral is any figure with 4 sides. A parallelogram is a 4 sided figure with opposite parallel sides. A rhombus is a 4 sided figure with all sides being equal. A trapezoid has 4 sides, two of which are parallel. A square is a rectangle, a quadrilateral, a parallelogram, and a rhombus, but not a trapezoid. Mark apparently learned nothing in geometry class.

Rhombus

A rhombus is a 4-sided figure, all sides having the same length. A square is a kind of rhombus.
