A teenager is arrested for wanting to protect his family. A neglectful mother was reported for endangering her 2 year old. When police decided to remove this child, her son distracted the officers allowing the mother to escape. We're not given details of the 'distraction', but I guess it was only a plea to not loose his sibling. He is being held at $2500 and faced with allegations that could cost $10K & TEN years in prison! The real reason, it seems, that the mother escaped was because she was allowed to get items for the child in her house on her own. Hopefully, she learns to clean up her act for her kids, but this is a case of incompetence making a bad situation intensely worse.

UPDATE: Police found and arrested the mother today. It turns out this teen wasn't the son, but the 10 year potential sentence is still outrageous no matter who he is. We know no one got hurt, because our local news would eat that up and he would have been charged with assault just for touching a cop, so why arrest him at all? The 10K fine is irrelevant because he'd never be able to afford it. The mother faces 20 years in prison as well. http://tinyurl.com/6v9ffnn
