I think apprenticeships have the potential to create a much more efficient learning model. Most people learn by doing, not by reading books, listening to lectures or taking tests. If you tray to cram too much information inside at a time, you will not retain much for very long. Testing a person for their knowledge has huge drawbacks namely that you are testing for memory skills, not practical working knowledge. If you learn a little and use it right after, it will reinforce that knowledge and make the learning of the subject much more satisfying.

Excellent article!!!! Thank you for posting on such an important topic. You have my vote (+).
I hope this program expands beyond 18-24 year olds. It is not unusual anymore for middle-aged persons, or elderly persons, to switch careers to find new challenges and expand their knowledge. Some middle aged people can not afford to go back to college (formal education) to earn a degree, or earn another degree just to switch careers/jobs. However, the desire to learn new things is there.
I am so glad to find other people that are thinking outside the formal education box. I agree that not everyone learns in the same way (by long lectures, tests (which seem to only test memory), studying topics a student has no interest in but are required anyway if a student wishes to earn a piece of paper for all of their hard work, etc.). I have long believed that by excluding people, like high school drop outs, or college drop outs, etc. many employers are missing out on some of the best employees, and sometimes miss out on the best person for the job too.
