The US has started seizing the domain names of various websites through ICANN - not because owners of these sites were convicted of anything, but merely because complaints have been filed against them.

This is annoying, of course, but remember that this sort of thing always leads to a technological leap. Why, if it weren't for enforcement actions like this, we'd all still be using napster. And when you consider that there's no technological reason why you have to use ICANN, except that it's what everyone else uses (for now), this might be just the boost that the alternative DNS registry industry needs to get jump started.
