Petaluma Batman is a true caped crusader, as you can see in his photo, and he patrols the streets of his hometown. His motto, "a hero can be anyone." I can certainly get behind that.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday signed into law a new package of gun regulations intended to fortify New York's existing assault weapons ban, limit the number of bullets in magazines and strengthen rules that keep the mentally ill from owning firearms. The regulations are the nation's first since last month's massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, where a gunman killed 27 people, including 20 young children at an elementary school. Cuomo, a self-described gun owner, said the tragedy had spurred lawmakers to action and called the legislation a "common sense" measure.

An engineer who created plans of working replica for the starship Enterprise has created a petition for NASA to consider the project.
The engineer suggests that the 3,000 foot-long ship be built in space and not land on the surface of any moon or planet so that it would never need to reach escape velocity. The ship would use on-board nuclear reactors, cutting down cost of fuelling the ship. He estimates his re-design of the Enterprise would be able to travel to the moon in a mere three days, and Mars in three months.

A new state law has made it tougher for people who drive under the influence of drugs in New Hampshire. The law, which went into effect Jan. 1, has made driving impaired due to over-the-counter and prescription drugs illegal. “There was a loophole in the language which did not include many drugs which impair you to drive,” said State Police Sgt. Matthew Shapiro, commander of the drug recognition program. “People could be 10 times more impaired and not be prosecuted.”

Kane County Sheriff’s police assigned a deputy to Mill Creek Elementary School near Geneva Thursday after a disturbance at the school Wednesday when a parent complained children weren’t reciting the Pledge of Allegiance correctly, officials said. That evening, the same parent emailed school board members, administrators and some parents in the community, and also posted a message on Facebook, claiming Mill Creek students state the Pledge of Allegiance incorrectly, leaving out the word “liberty,” among other claims, according to district officials.

Relations between the King County Sheriff's Office and the state Department of Corrections have been strained by the shooting of Dustin Theoharis, who last winter was shot multiple times, survived and plans to bring a civil suit.
The incident occurred inside an Auburn-area house Feb. 11. The man who was shot, Dustin Theoharis, now 29, survived multiple wounds to his arms, legs, torso and jaw, including fractures that required a series of surgeries.
"He is thankful to be alive, but he has a long way to go to recover," said his attorney, Erik Heipt, of Seattle.
