Police, for all practical matters, have rights far beyond those which ordinary citizens enjoy. Police may request identification from people, detain people, beat people, and even kill innocents, with little or no fear of the negative repercussions which any of us would expect were we to do any of those things. The recent trial of the BART police officer Johannes Mehserle who shot and killed Oscar Grant has left many wondering if justice was served. A week ago, a federal judge in Iowa ordered Osceola County Sheriff Douglas Weber to take an in-depth course on the US Constitution after overturning his decision to deny Paul Dorr a concealed-carry permit. Weber had rejected Dorr’s application because of his political activism.

A highway patrol officer gets upset when the EMT's job interferes with his. Ambulance did not yield right-of-way to officer with flashing lights because they had a patient on board. Kop pulls them over and yells at them, with the patient still needing to get to the hospital. Full dashboard video now released, complete with video of "offense" and ensuing pigheadedness.

Not sure where this legislation is currently at. It would appear that politicans have no principles when they threaten volunteer fire departments in order to gain union support. It's funny how people want to believe that essential emergency services must be provided by government when the voluntary activity is right there in front of their eyes...for now.

Thirty-two soldiers took their own lives last month, the most Army suicides in a single month since the Vietnam era. Eleven of the soldiers were not on active duty. Of the 21 who were, seven were serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, the Department of Defense said.

Army officials say they don't have any answers to why more and more soldiers are resorting to suicide.

Last year, a record-breaking 245 soldiers committed suicide. The Army seems on track to surpass that number this year, as 145 soldiers have taken their lives in the first half of 2010.

A U.S. Congressman has introduced a resolution that would protect citizens who videotape cops in public from getting arrested on state wiretapping charges.
