Police, for all practical matters, have rights far beyond those which ordinary citizens enjoy. Police may request identification from people, detain people, beat people, and even kill innocents, with little or no fear of the negative repercussions which any of us would expect were we to do any of those things. Read more »42 year old Kenneth Tomlinson of Fredricktown is facing 16 counts of statutory sodomy involving two juvenile boys who were also videotaped by Tomlinson according to investigators. Officials say Tomlinson later viewed the videos with the victims before destroying them. Tomlinson was named head of the Fredricktown department in April 2009 after serving as a patrol officer since 1997. He was also a scout leader for the local Boy Scouts of America in Fredricktown until his arrest in January 2010. His membership with the scouting organization was revoked when charges were filed.

Thirty-two soldiers took their own lives last month, the most Army suicides in a single month since the Vietnam era. Eleven of the soldiers were not on active duty. Of the 21 who were, seven were serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, the Department of Defense said.
Army officials say they don't have any answers to why more and more soldiers are resorting to suicide.
Last year, a record-breaking 245 soldiers committed suicide. The Army seems on track to surpass that number this year, as 145 soldiers have taken their lives in the first half of 2010.
