"New" Germany seizes, scrubs [private] Stasi museum. Apologetics?

http://www.independent.co.uk

1 in 20 East Germans were informants. "The Lives of Others" is a sad and unsettling movie about what results when Soviet statism is executed with German efficiency: The Stasi. Funny how much of East German communist assets like this museum were homesteaded, and now the "kindler, gentler" western state wants to seize it all over again. Never again!

New Bill Gives POTUS ‘Kill Switch’ To Shut Down The Internet

http://www.prisonplanet.com

"The federal government would have “absolute power” to shut down the Internet under the terms of a new US Senate bill being pushed by Joe Lieberman, legislation which would hand the US President a figurative “kill switch” to seize control of the world wide web in response to a Homeland Security directive." --- Not sure how this is possible since the World Wide Web is.... you know... world wide. O_o

NY village bans smoking outside

http://www.whec.com

The Geneseo Village Board has passed a law that makes it illegal to smoke in public parks or in the village parking lot.

The law was approved just last week at a village board meeting. Smokers will not be allowed to light up at all four of the village parks, that includes Highland Park, which village officials say is almost always busy with people and sports.

Smoking will also be banned in the Downtown Municipal Parking lot, even if you're smoking in your car.

The fines won't be cheap, they go all the way up to $250.

US record labels starts fake citizen's group to support Canada's DMCA

http://feeds.boingboing.net

A website in support of Canada's proposed US-style copyright law looks to be a work of corporate astroturf, and signs point to the CRIA - Canadian Record Industry Association (mostly composed of US record labels; many Canadian labels have left to form an independent lobby that opposes much of CRIA's agenda)

Boy, 14, who helped lost toddler find mom charged with kidnapping!

http://www.orlandosentinel.com

Last week, Edwin went to the Burlington Coat Factory store on West Colonial Drive with his mother. He saw a 3-year-old girl without a parent. If he had it to do all over again, if he could see the cops, the handcuffs, the TV cameras and the jail cell all awaiting him, I imagine the last thing he would have done was try to help her. But he did.....

Ron Insana's vicious (and just plain stupid) attack on Ron Paul

http://www.economicpolicyjournal.com

Probably one of the most laughable attacks on Ron Paul in recent memory is by a (failed) fund manager, a Bizarro-World Ron Paul: Ron Insana (yes, that's his real name) who says that Ron Paul doesn't "even have a basic understanding of fundamental economics, let alone more complex issues and better ways to hedge against inflation than buying gold." Really? Give me bloody break. Their track records speak for themselves. Look at his firm today (failed), and look at Gold since his firm started (more than doubled.)

Seattle officer punches girl in face during jaywalking stop

http://www.komonews.com

The video is behind the link. Basically two women were stopped jaywalking. Officials say one was "verbally antagonistic toward the officer," when one woman started walking away. The officer "escorted" her back, which means he grabbed her by the arm and dragged her back. Then she started yelling at him and pull away. The second girl intervened and he socked her.

Here's the funny part:

"Seattle police have not reviewed the video of the incident."

But the best part I think, is that the public surrounds the scene with camera phones.
