Manchester-Boston Regional Airport to inspect vehicles

http://www.unionleader.com

Drivers approaching the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport will be subject to random vehicle inspection and search. The random inspections are reportedly designed to be brief and "minimally intrusive" so as not to disrupt passenger travel schedules. The stops will be conducted in cooperation with airport security, police and the U.S. Transportation Security Administration. The inspection area is along the airport entrance road, located after an advisory sign that alerts motorists, "All vehicles are subject to search."

WASHINGTON - By smashing gold particles together at super-fast speeds, physicists have basically melted protons, creating a kind of "quark soup" of matter that is about 250,000 times hotter than the center of the sun and similar to conditions just after the birth of the universe.

Scientists turn light into electrical current

http://www.physorg.com

Material scientists at the Nano/Bio Interface Center of the University of Pennsylvania have demonstrated the transduction of optical radiation to electrical current in a molecular circuit. The system, an array of nano-sized molecules of gold, respond to electromagnetic waves by creating surface plasmons that induce and project electrical current across molecules, similar to that of photovoltaic solar cells.

Spirituality may be a form of brain damage

http://www.livescience.com

Scientists have identified areas of the brain that, when damaged, lead to greater spirituality. The findings hint at the roots of spiritual and religious attitudes, the researchers say. Self-transcendence "reflects a decreased sense of self and an ability to identify one's self as an integral part of the universe as a whole," the researchers explain.

Tea Party Movement Lights Fuse for Rebellion on Right

http://www.nytimes.com

A article on the Patriot and Tea Party movements. I believe that it shows the mind set of many of the people who go out and hold their flags to protest taxes. It also shows the inevitable co-opting of the movement by the established Republicans/neocons, along with a health dose of propaganda and fear mongering.

Scientist admits:There has been no global warming since 1995

http://www.dailymail.co.uk

The academic at the centre of the ‘Climategate’ affair, whose raw data is crucial to the theory of climate change, has admitted that he has trouble ‘keeping track’ of the information.
Colleagues say that the reason Professor Phil Jones has refused Freedom of Information requests is that he may have actually lost the relevant papers.
Professor Jones told the BBC yesterday there was truth in the observations of colleagues that he lacked organisational skills, that his office was swamped with piles of paper and that his record keeping is ‘not as good as it should be’.

School district pulls Anne Frank’s diary over ‘vagina’ passage

http://rawstory.com

In a disastrous move that many will probably view as Holocaust denial, Culpeper County Public Schools pulled Anne Frank's diary from the curriculum and from the shelves, because the book contained references to sexuality. School districts continually prove that they are more worried about political correctness (which most of the time is bigotry in disguise anyway) and appeasing often only one critical parent than about educating children. Common sense does not seem to apply these days when it comes to evaluating the historical and social values of various pieces of literature.
