Feds try to prevent panic over national emergency alert

It's the first-ever nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS), which hopes to provide key information immediately to all Americans in the event of a truly national emergency. This national system will look and sound much like the current (and local) emergency warnings often seen on TV or heard on radio, but the scope is larger and it can be put under the direct control of the President.

FEMA is conducting a test of the EAS on November 9, 2011 at 2PM EST. The URL will fill you in on the official scoop. It remains unclear if cell phones will be affected according to AT&T. The test will take over all 'digital' traffic for up to 3½ minutes.

Where was FEMA on September 10, 2001? Setting up in New York for a 'test' of emergency preparedness. The test event was to be a terrorist attack, flying airliners into tall buildings.

COOPER CITY, Fla. - A Cooper City family awoke to the sounds of three men posing as FBI agents on Wednesday.
The three men were caught on home surveillance video.
They were all wearing t-shirts with the words FBI on them and had fake badges around their necks.
A father, mother and three children were all inside, when the heard the men say "FBI, police! Open up!"

The father fired a warning shot and the three men took off running.
