McLEAN COUNTY -- The state's attorneys office is going public with a bold, new policy. It's no longer prosecuting offenders of some gun laws in Illinois.

The interim state's attorney says he's tired of Illinois not having "concealed-carry." So, now, prosecutors are considering several questions when deciding if they'll press charges.

They consider a person's intent, criminal history and whether the weapon was used recklessly. It only applies to those with a valid FOID card.

The state's attorney hopes his actions send a message to the state. The policy could be reversed this fall.

A 53-year-old woman sought by law enforcement because she might expose people to tuberculosis tried to run from officers Wednesday morning, but was captured minutes later in a patch of woods in north Jackson County. Hicks tested positive for TB on April 3. She started treatments on June 15, but later went off the treatments, according to a sheriff’s report. However, he said when someone has tuberculosis in the community there is usually no risk unless there is close and prolonged contact.

A Texas father caught a man sexually assaulting his 4-year-old daughter and punched him in the head repeatedly, killing him, authorities said. The father was casually acquainted with the alleged abuser, said Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon. Neither has been publicly identified. The girl was left inside the family's house during the social gathering, while other members of her family were tending to horses, the sheriff said. The alleged abuser was known for his horse-grooming abilities, Harmon said.
