5 Reasons Humanity Is Terrible at Democracy

In the middle of the heated health care debate in 2010, the anchors at Fox News got a memo from the bosses telling them to start referring to the Democrats' plan as "government-run health insurance" rather than use the term "public option," which everyone else was using.

Why? Because CBS and NBC both ran polls showing that when you call it the "public" plan, up to 75 percent of the people are in favor -- after all, everybody likes public parks and public libraries, etc. It's a friendly word.

Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today released its 2009 list of Washington's "Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians." The list, in alphabetical order, includes:

One of the more interesting (of many) paradoxes of statism is that people simultaneously esteem and loathe politicians. Most would deny the former sentiment, but a belief that the state is a collection of experts tasked with running society and the economy betrays that denial. Further, this esteem is manifest in their reference to politicians as “leaders,” “authorities,” and “officials.”

Despite all the lovey-dovey rhetoric about the supposed greatness of "democracy," there's only one thing its proponents want it for: to get moral permission to force their preferences, opinions and ideas on other people. People vote, hoping "their guy" will win.

I do find it "odd" that here in show prep democracy is used in order to manipulate a liberty program. lol "Voting" up or down stories ends the free speech of the listeners who participate. Just one more popularity contest, i.e democracy at large.
There's that, and only having 3 votes in the "choosing." After that, the selection process doesn't work. ;)

When a legislature interferes with voluntary employment contracts, it infringes people’s freedom to bargain with their own labor and possessions. Treating this kind of interference as acceptable means licensing arbitrary interventions into the market by politicians, who are ill-equipped to second-guess the decisions made by the real people making work agreements with one another.
