The plaintiff contended that, had Ryobi included a competitor's patented "Stop Saw" technology, the injury would've been prevented. Ryobi wanted to include that technology, but the competitor refused to license the technology at a price Ryobi could afford to pay while still selling a competing product. Thanks to patent law, Ryobi gets to pay anyway, and a "citizen" has a permanently damaged hand.

A federal jury in Jackson ruled Friday that a Henry County sheriff's deputy was wrong in seizing more than $14,000 from a woman during a lengthy traffic stop in 2008.

As a result, the jury awarded the woman, Carmina Perez, $75,000 in damages Friday, according to a report on WSMV-TV from Nashville.

A Jefferson County constable shot a woman suspected of shoplifting in a Walmart parking Wednesday afternoon, Louisville Metro Police said. Whitlock told police he approached a female suspect in her car in the parking lot. He said the woman ran over his foot, prompting him to fire his gun, Mitchell said. The woman, whose name has not been released, was shot in the arm and hand, Mitchell said. It was not clear how many shots Whitlock fired.

Miami Beach police did their best to destroy a citizen video that shows them shooting a man to death in a hail of bullets Memorial Day.

First, police pointed their guns at the man who shot the video, according to a Miami Herald interview with the videographer.

Then they ordered the man and his girlfriend out the car and threw them down to the ground, yelling “you want to be fucking paparazzi?”
