TOULOUSE, France – Riot police surrounded an apartment building into the night on Wednesday, laying siege to a gunman who boasted of bringing France "to its knees" by carrying out an Al Qaeda-linked terror spree that killed seven people.

Hundreds of heavily armed police, some in body armor, cordoned off the five-story building in Toulouse where the 24-year-old suspect, Mohamed Merah, had been holed up since the pre-dawn hours.

Rachner discovered through sleuthing that police had withheld video-recorded evidence in his case.

Rachner also hired Seattle attorney Cleveland Stockmeyer to look at his case and probably others where arrests might have been illegal or where police claimed to have destroyed valuable arrest videos that weren't, in fact, erased.

The Monterey County coroner tells the Salinas Californian that 31-year-old Rogelio Serrato was the victim of a fire started Wednesday by a diversionary flash grenade used by police.

Monterey police raided the Greenfield house in their search for 23-year-old Alejandro Jose Gonzalez, whom they were seeking in connection with a New Year's Day shooting...
