For the first time since the Federal Reserve was created nearly a century ago they have hired an actual lobbyist to pound the pavement on Capitol Hill. This is a desperate effort to hang on to the privilege of secrecy and lack of accountability they have enjoyed for so long.
A possible future scenario if CISPA is allowed to pass & become law, in that with recent amendments it now trumps all other State & Federal privacy law, including HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
I don't know how well you guys can hear the audience from where you're sitting, but if you listen they don't scoff when you talk about the technical specifications of the Drone, or what it will be use for, or won't. They scoff when you talk about accountability. And they scoff when you talk about transparency. And they scoff when you talk about self reporting. So what you have is a problem where the people in this room don't trust their government.
An article from the nation that describes the activism that is pointed against the TSA as a hit piece from libertarian leaning political action groups, such as FreedomWorks and the Koch brothers. Discussed in this article is John Tyner's TSA incident, Meg McLain's incident as well as her involvement with Liberty on Tour, as well as Free Keene. I especially like the description of Keene, New Hampshire as a "libertarian quasi-commune"
OTTAWA – After five years, the Harper Conservatives today pleaded guilty to breaking Canada’s election laws. While four Conservative insiders escaped accountability, NDP leader Nycole Turmel says that Stephen Harper cannot. She called on him to explain his party’s illegal actions.
"In a time of rigged voting machines and rule by decree, a time of military tribunals and tortured defendants, the concept of evidence and accountability is a joke. Consider the current bin Laden farce what it was intended to be, the American government reminding its people and the people of the world how little respect it has for them."
The American Civil Liberties Union failed in late-2010 to push a lawsuit challenging the Obama Administration’s claimed power to assassinate American citizens without charging them with any crimes, but is hoping for a consolation prize today, filing another suit challenging the killings after the fact. “It’s an effort to get accountability,” noted ACLU deputy director Jameel Jaffer, saying that even though the Justice Department successfully argued that the killings couldn’t be challenged beforehand, they could now press the administration to “explain to a court why it did what it did.”
