An Indianapolis police officer who was once honored for his prolific arrests of drunken drivers could cost the city more than $1 million in legal claims stemming from a fatal crash in which he is accused of driving drunk.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving spokeswoman Dorene Englert expressed disappointment today in Officer David Bisard. MADD recognized Bisard in the late 1990s while he was a Noblesville police officer.

NEW YORK – The New York Police Department is investigating why it took more than eight hours for a police officer suspected of drunken driving to be given a blood-alcohol test. Rafael Casiano crashed his car at about 4:30 a.m. Friday in the Bronx while off duty. Another officer riding with him with was hospitalized with a head injury.

If there's a surefire way to get caught for committing an offense these days, it's airing the details on social media. Jacob Cox-Brown, an 18-year-old from Oregon, learned that lesson on New Year's Day when police showed up at his door after they were alerted to a Facebook post he wrote about driving drunk, KGW.com reports. "Drivin drunk... classsic ;) but to whoever's vehicle i hit i am sorry. :P," the status update read, according to the news outlet.

Indeed, many critics of the .08 policy predicted that the new law could make matters worse by using up scarce law enforcement resources to go after these new "drunk" drivers who don't pose much of a threat to highway safety

The City of Austin has a problem: fewer people are driving while legally drunk, causing DWI ticket revenues to plummet. Thankfully, Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo has a solution: create a new class of "crime" called "Driving While Ability-Impaired". Ladies could help fund the city budget after only one drink with a BAC of 0.05%, whereas most men would need at least two.

I enjoy a good game of "Cops and Speeders" as much as the next scofflaw. It makes driving much more interesting, and I believe actually safer due to enhanced situational awareness. But these cops don't play the game correctly. The object of the game (by "my rules" anyway) is to beat "The Man". Lacking that ticket / beat-down risk factor, apparently these cops just up the speed.
