Irish Woman Jailed Indefinitely for Illegal Forest

http://www.dailymail.co.uk

Ms. Teresa Treacy loves her 100 acres of trees, which is why she's refused the demands of Ireland's state-owned Electricity Supply Board to chop them down to make way for new power lines. Claiming that her homestead is a country haven from city life, she simply does not want the power lines to cross her property, at the expense of trees she's tended for decades. This is why Judge Daniel Herbert has commanded her jailed until she gives permission for the ESB to chop down the wide swath necessary for the power lines and maintenance access: "We may as well sink into anarchy." Note that the workers aren't waiting for her consent; work will continue unabated. Ms. Treacy is merely being jailed for not giving permission for this vandalism.
