With all the uprisings in Egypt, Iran and others it seems clear we are witnessing the democratization of the Middle East. The framers of the American system drew upon all of history in their deliberation. Likewise, there is no reason that democracy in the Middle East must emulate the democracies of the West when they could learn from America’s history and avoid problems so deeply entrenched they will never be solved here. To paraphrase Thomas Paine, they have it in their power to begin the world over again.

After months of a grueling primary, it is not yet clear where the younger Paul’s savvy campaigning ends and his true ideological impulses begin, particularly on national security and foreign policy. No one is entirely sure how to reconcile his more blistering critiques of the war during his father’s campaign with his more hawkish pronouncements – particularly on Iran as “a dangerous threat to the Middle East” and against closing the Guantanamo Bay prison – during his own campaign.

World peace has been on a downward trend in recent years, according to an annual gauge of domestic and foreign conflict.
But there are bright spots regardless of the overall global outlook. Iceland passed New Zealand to become “the country most at peace.” Other nations ranked high on the peace scale were Japan, Denmark, Czech Republic, Austria, Finland, Canada, Norway and Slovenia.

Yesterday morning, Ron Paul repaid their support by filing a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organization, an agency of Paul's much-reviled United Nations, seeking the expropriation of both RonPaul.com and RonPaul.org from his supporters without any compensation.

Watchdog: Corruption ignited this year's protests
(AP) BERLIN — Widespread corruption ignited protests this year across the Middle East and in those nations badly shaken by Europe's debt crisis as citizens demanded accountability from their governments, an international watchdog said Thursday.

The world's seven most industrialised nations have pledged to write off their countries' debts with Haiti, following a devastating earthquake last month. (Note: Speaking personally, I think this is a good thing that can be done; hopefully we can extend the same policy of debt forgiveness to other developing countries.)

PARIS -- Governments around the world expelled Syrian ambassadors and diplomats Tuesday, an unusual, coordinated blow to Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime following a gruesome massacre that the United Nations said involved close-range shootings of scores of children and parents in their homes. The United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria and the Netherlands took action Tuesday against Syrian diplomats. Britain's foreign secretary said the countries involved in Tuesday's expulsions would also push for tougher sanctions against Syria.
