California voters have a chance on this November's ballot to bring common sense to law enforcement by legalizing marijuana for adults. As San Jose's retired chief of police and a cop with 35 years experience on the front lines in the war on marijuana, I'm voting yes.

"New city records show that former Police Chief Heather Fong - who retired in 2009 - received a grand total of $528,595 in her final year. Now that she's gone, she's pulling down an annual pension of $229,500 for life."

Many Californians have become cynical about the padded pensions of government retirees. There are at least a couple of reasons: The sizable number who are earning as much or more in retirement than they did while working -- which would be impossible in the private sector -- and the number whose pensions are $100,000 or more, sometimes at age 50.

The 110 medical marijuana dispensaries in San Jose will be reduced to only ten after a city council vote to impose new restrictions on pot clubs.

A vote that came in early Tuesday evening would limit the city to only ten dispensaries and only two such establishments per district. The new regulation would also require that marijuana be grown on site at the dispensaries.

It wasn't a raid by kevlar-clad law enforcement and no medicine was seized, but medicinal cannabis advocates still felt a twinge of anxiety -- you can take something for that, we hear -- when the city's first pot club, the San Jose Cannabis Buyers Collective, received an eviction notice from its landlord last week.

"The transfer of 41 police officers and 12 firefighters might save the airport an estimated $10 million a year, a savings essential to preventing the loss of more flights -- and the passenger revenue they bring -- from the financially strapped airport, officials said."

Retired Police Officer Reportedly Told to Remove Flag Honoring Victims of 9/11

A retired New York City police officer living in Florida has been ordered to take down his flag commemorating September 11 by his homeowners’ association, WPLG reports.

Richard Wentz, who helped victims out of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, has been told he has just days to take down his flag or face possible legal action.
