Her arrest and sentencing has been widely criticized as an crackdown on dissent by human rights activists. Miss Lihong's treatment mirrors the treatment of activists in the Orlando area.

The Fredericton Police issued a ticket to the activist and blogger Charles Leblanc on Tuesday for violating noise bylaws but the blogger told the police that he intended to keep on protesting. He was protesting a ticket he received for riding his bike on the sidewalk in Fredericton.

By now, most people have probably heard about George Clooney's arrest on Friday, March 16, outside the Sudanese Embassy in Washington, DC. In addition to Clooney, several others were arrested, including his father Nick Clooney, Martin Luther King III, the president of the NAACP and several members of Congress (Al Green, Jim McGovern, Jim Moran and John Olver). These men were joined in protest by a reported crowd of roughly 100 people.
