A Cincinnati high school is paying its students to come to school.

The Dohn Community High School has launched a $40,000 incentive program to get students to come to class.

The school’s CEO Ken Furrier told CBS Cleveland that students will get Visa gift cards for showing up every day for school, being on time for class and not getting into trouble. Seniors would get $25 while underclassmen would get $10.

Lawmakers in the nation's capital have floated a plan to require high school students to apply to college or trade school -- even if the students have no interest in attending.

The proposal is a bid to ensure students in the troubled Washington, D.C., school system at least have the know-how to navigate the admissions process.

"Five students at a South Bay high school stirred up some controversy Wednesday for wearing t-shirts depicting red, white and blue American flags on Cinco de Mayo...One of the students said it appeared school administrators were worried the patriotic shirts could trigger fights...Four of the five students...were facing unexcused absences because they chose to go home early rather than take off what they were wearing."

When all else fails, nothing snaps teenagers into shape faster than threatening to take away their driver’s licenses. At least that’s what legislators in South Carolina are banking on.

The Charlotte Observer reports that state lawmakers are on the verge of “fast-tracking” a bill that would take away the driver’s licenses of any teenager 18 and younger who failed to graduate or just missed too many days of class.

A policy in place for some classes could limit students to three washroom visits during class per SEMESTER without penalty. After that limit, they have to stay after school and make up any class time missed when answering the call of nature. Principal Bill Sanderson said the policy ensures that students won’t miss valuable class time and also prevents some from using a washroom visit as an excuse. Some teachers have asked “how do we stop kids from going to the bathroom to get out of class, how do we make them accountable?”

After enacting an insanely strict dress code, a public high school suspended 169 students for violations. The mass number of suspensions sparked protests and disobedience.

Court has become a deterrent instead of detention for some North Texas students.

The social and economic group Texas Appleseed collected five years worth of data from 22 districts across the state and found young students, including a six year old in Dallas, who received class C misdemeanor tickets for things like disrupting class, leaving school early and school yard brawls that didn’t include weapons.

A western Indiana school district wants to give its bus drivers the authority to search students for weapons or drugs.

The Tribune-Star reported that a Vigo County School Corp. proposal would allow the drivers to search a student and the student's belongings if there is an immediate threat of harm or danger to those on the bus.
