Paul Bechtel gave the rude gesture to his soon-to-be-ex-wife Rebecca during a recent appearance in a Sacramento County family court, which didn’t surprise her. Deputies placed him in cuffs for violating a restraining order against him that called for no communication with her. Giving someone the finger, authorities said, is a form of communication. The gesture also qualifies as harassment, Sheriff’s Department spokesman Tim Curran said. “One would consider flipping the bird as harassing somebody, and that’s what the judge believed and he was charged accordingly,” Curran said.

WASHINGTON -- A police officer can't pull you over and arrest you just because you gave him the finger, a federal appeals court declared Thursday. In a 14-page opinion, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit ruled that the "ancient gesture of insult is not the basis for a reasonable suspicion of a traffic violation or impending criminal activity."

The former commander of the Indiana State Police Toll Road post has been arrested on 17 felony charges, including 10 counts of theft, six counts of forgery and one count of official misconduct.

Flipping the bird, or sticking out the middle finger, is perhaps the oldest insulting gesture on earth. The move dates back to ancient Greece and was adopted by the Romans as digitus impudicus — the impudent finger.

A North Texas woman has been arrested after being accused of posting Facebook photos of an undercover policeman who testified against her friend in court.
Mesquite police arrested Melissa Walthall, 30, for allegedly posting the photo of the officer, who authorities say recently testified in a drug case against her friend. Her Facebook post identified the person as an undercover officer, according to a federal affidavit. *She found the pics on the cops Facebook page. Wouldn't the photos be public already?*
