The federal justice minister is considering a new law that would allow police to conduct random breathalyzer tests on drivers, regardless of whether they suspect motorists have been drinking.

A Chicago police officer involved in a controversial fatal shooting admitted that he drank "multiple" beers before he went to work that night, but the city waited more than five hours to give him a Breathalyzer test, according to a new court filing by an attorney for the slain man's estate.

Justice delayed is justice denied: Attorney General Eric Holder says that the U.S. needs to examine whether the current rules regarding Miranda warnings give law enforcement agents the “necessary flexibility” when dealing with terrorism cases, suggesting that regulators consider a longer delay before American citizens must be read their rights. “If we are going to have a system that is capable of dealing, in a public safety context, with this new threat, I think we have to give serious consideration to at least modifying that public safety exception.”

Our nation’s founding fathers understood well how governments can become coercive and self serving, so they were very careful to include a Bill of Rights into our constitution to prevent this. The most fundamental of these rights is the belief that holds that a person is innocent until proven guilty. The Sixth Amendment was written to give the accused the right to a “speedy trial” and the Eighth Amendment was written to prohibit excessive bail, excessive fines, and cruel and unusual punishment.

The EPA has changed its policy on corn-ethanol blends, and states may soon change their formula 15 percent ethanol. The problem with that? There are fears might void your warranty or damage your car. Also, from the article:

The Patriot Act was enacted in a bipartisan effort in an attempt to alleviate the fears of the American people after the attack on 9/11/01. Yet one of our founding fathers Ben Franklin stated, "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety”. Ademo was convicted of a law that doesn't exist. It seems no one read the law.

"A person is guilty of a MISDEMEANOR if, except as otherwise specifically provided in this chapter or without consent of all parties to the communication, the person knowingly intercepts a telecommunication or oral communication when the person is a party to the communication or with the prior consent of one of the parties to the communication, but without the approval required by RSA 570-A:2, II(d). "

I was in New Hampshire's Sullivan County district court today to respond to a traffic arrest from February. I was not told, and did not know exactly what kind of proceeding I was involved with.

Rather than give the whole shebang away, I thought I'd relay these two salient observations:

1) I was the only person ( out of about 15 or so ) to plead "Not Guilty."
2) My fees & fines ( for not having my papers in order ) are higher than driving 99 mph in a 65 zone.

Repeal the Drinking Age

Somehow, and no one seems to even imagine how, this country managed to survive and thrive before 1984 without a national minimum drinking age. Before that, the drinking question was left to the states.
