A motion to dismiss charges based on the use of a Predator drone was denied Wednesday. A North Dakota court has preliminarily upheld the first-ever use of an unmanned drone to assist in the arrest of an American citizen.

Without evidence, charges, trial, or due process, President Obama has ordered the murder of an American citizen based on allegations of ties to terrorism. Congressman Ron Paul and Judge Andrew Napolitano blast this latest step down the road to tyranny. It's no longer a stretch to imagine this power being used to remove political opponents or those who criticize the government or who voice dissenting views.

I had just finished reading the uncensored edition of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s book, In the First Circle (Harper Perennial, 2009), when I came across Chris Hedges article, ‘‘One Day We’ll All Be Terrorists’’ (Truthdig, Dec. 28, 2009). In Hedges’ description of the U.S. government’s treatment of American citizen Syed Fahad Hashmi, I recognized the Stalinist legal system as portrayed by Solzhenitsyn.

Is the free market an individualist or collectivist social arrangement? Don’t answer too quickly. It’s a trick question. Most people — free-market friend and free-market foe alike — will answer “individualist.” And that makes perfect sense. The free market describes a political/legal environment in which individuals are at liberty to engage in any peaceful activity, with only force and fraud prohibited. No one may aggressively interfere with another human being’s peaceful projects.

This is the first time I've heard the term "hate group" used publicly to describe liberty-loving and anti-government groups. So glad we passed the Patriot Act. The reporters seem to have never even heard the term "sovereign citizen", even though the concept dates back to the founding fathers. They should know better.

The Left loves a phantom statistic that a firearm in the hands of a citizen is X times more likely to cause accidental damage than to be used in the prevention of crime, but what is there about criminals that ensures that their gun use is accident-free? If, indeed, a firearm were more dangerous to its possessors than to potential aggressors, would it not make sense for the government to arm all criminals, and let them accidentally shoot themselves? Is this absurd? Yes, and yet the government, of course, is arming criminals.

The big news this week is a secret memo from the Justice Department titled, “Lawfulness of a Lethal Operation Directed Against a U.S. Citizen.” It was leaked to NBC News, and details the legal justification the Obama Administration believes legitimizes drone strikes on American citizens. When this story broke, most people’s first thought was of Imam Anwar al Awlaki and his 16 year old son, two American citizens assassinated in Yemen by the Obama Administration in two distinct drone strikes, but my first thought was the Free State Project.

"'Truth, justice, and the American way' - it's not enough anymore," the comic book superhero said, after both the Iranian and American governments criticized him for joining a peaceful anti-government protest in Tehran. Last year, almost 1,800 people followed Superman's lead, renouncing their U.S. citizenship or handing in their Green Cards.

Should this man be able to sidestep the process of becoming an American citizen because he finished college?
