They could be dismissed as a nuisance, a loose network of individuals living in the United States who call themselves “sovereign citizens” and believe that federal, state, and local governments operate illegally. Some of their actions, although quirky, are not crimes. The offenses they do commit seem minor: They do not pay their taxes and regularly create false license plates, driver’s licenses, and even currency.

Virginia House bill 1160: Unlawful detention of United States citizens. Prevents any agency, political subdivision, employee, or member of the military of Virginia from assisting an agency of the armed forces of the United States in the conduct of the investigation, prosecution, or detention of a United States citizen in violation of the United States Constitution, Constitution of Virginia, or any Virginia law or regulation.

Canadian municipalities are starting to ban people from using longboards on streets and sidewalks. The border town of White Rock, B.C. says they are doing it because a 27-year-old longboarder was killed this summer in a neighboring town AND because senior citizens told the mayor they are scared of the longboarders.

President Barack Obama has an unexpected foreign policy problem – in
the Western United States. The Lakota Sioux nation has seceded from the
United States, according to a story on the anti-American website La Voz de Aztlan.

“We are no longer citizens of the United States of America and all
those who live in the five-state area that encompasses our country are
free to join us,” long-time Native American radical leader Russell Means said. The move potentially impacts the states of Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming.

QUEBEC -- Starting in December, passengers on Canadian airlines flying to, from or even over the United States without ever landing there, will only be allowed to board the aircraft once the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has determined they are not terrorists.

Secure Flight, the newest weapon in the U.S. war on terrorism, gives the United States unprecedented power about who can board planes that fly over U.S. airspace -- even if the flights originate and land in Canada.

In the span of just three years, we have seen drone surveillance become openly operational on American soil.

In 2007, Texas reporters first filmed a predator drone test being conducted by the local police department in tandem with Homeland Security. And in 2009, it was revealed that an operation was underway to use predator drones inland over major cities, far from “border control” functions. This year it has been announced that not only will drone operations fly over the Mexican border, but the United States and Canada are partnering to cover 900 miles of the northern border as well.

Canadian woman sues US border guard over strip search at Detroit crossing. After finding a few raspberries border guards sent a woman to secondary inspection where she was stripped and had her nipples and genital area closely inspected while another guard watched. The woman was suspected of living in the US illegally.
