Low levels of household income are associated with several lifetime mental disorders and suicide attempts, and a decrease in income is associated with a higher risk for anxiety, substance use, and mood disorders, according to a report in the April issue of Archives of General Psychiatry.

Does happiness rise with income? In one of the more scientific attempts to answer that question, researchers from Princeton have put a price on happiness. It's about $75,000 in income a year.

They found that not having enough money definitely causes emotional pain and unhappiness. But, after reaching an income of about $75,000 per year, money can't buy happiness. More money can, however, help people view their lives as successful or better.

GOP presidential hopeful Rick Perry is proposing a flat income tax rate of 20%, personal retirement accounts for younger people and a balanced federal budget by 2020 as part of a sweeping economic plan he unveiled today.

"Google only pays a 2.4% tax rate using money-funneling techniques known as the 'Double Irish' and the 'Dutch Sandwich,' even though the US corporate income tax is 35%. By using Irish loopholes, money is transferred legally between subsidiaries and ends up in island sanctuaries that have no income tax, giving Google the lowest tax rate amongst its technology peers. Facebook is planning to use the same strategy."

Gov. Patrick Calls For Income Tax Hike

BOSTON (CBS/AP) — Gov. Deval Patrick has asked the Legislature to hike the state’s income tax from the current 5.25 percent to 6.25 percent, while also calling for a reduction in the state sales tax.

Every year around this time, millions of Americans fill out a form 1040 – hoping they don't have to write a check to Uncle Sam. Millions more know they will be getting a “refund” (which is normally a return of some portion of their money that was withheld in excess of what the IRS thinks they were owed) while a smaller number will receive a “refund” in excess of the amount withheld by the IRS.
