The recent trial of the BART police officer Johannes Mehserle who shot and killed Oscar Grant has left many wondering if justice was served. The fact that police departments are cracking down on officers being videotaped, is not lost on the west coast, where the Oscar Grant killing is still fresh in people’s mind. The video of the deadly police shooting shook the nation and was a key piece of evidence in the trial of the officer who shot an unarmed black man.

LOS ANGELES -- A white former transit officer was convicted of involuntary manslaughter Thursday in the shooting death of an unarmed black man on an Oakland train platform in a 2009 encounter that set off days of rioting in the city.

The jury deliberated more than six hours over two days to convict Johannes Mehserle in the killing of 22-year-old Oscar Grant, who was shot to death as he lay face-down.

A Los Angeles police officer today fatally shot a man allegedly armed with a knife in downtown Los Angeles.

The shooting occurred about 12:20 p.m. at Fifth and Spring streets, said Los Angeles police Officer Lyle Knight of the Media Relations office. The man, who was not immediately identified, died at a hospital, according to
police.

Hudson -- A Sullivan Road resident called police to report a "suspicious package" on his front porch Nov. 2 at 3:20 p.m.

The resident said he observed an unknown person leave the package and called police, according to the police report.

The officer said he could see the package was clearly labeled with the Amazon.com logo and asked the man if he had ordered anything from the firm recently.

The man reportedly said "Why yes, I did."
