WASHINGTON – A gunman coolly drew a weapon from his pocket and opened fire at the subway entrance to the Pentagon complex Thursday evening, wounding two police officers before being shot and critically wounded, officials said.

A gunman opened fire Friday inside a Connecticut elementary school, and several people are dead, including multiple children and the shooter, Fox News confirms. A law enforcement official said the shooter is believed to be a father of one of the students at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. Authorities said the gunman, who was not identified, is dead. An official with knowledge of the situation told the Associated Press that the man apparently had two guns. Earlier reports of a second gunman are unconfirmed.

A man was fatally shot by police in downtown Seattle on Monday afternoon, according to police.

The shooting occurred on the northwest corner of Boren Ave. and E. Howell St. at approximately 4:15 p.m.

Police said an officer was on patrol when he spotted a man sitting on the sidewalk, whittling, and approached him.

The officer told the man to drop the knife several times, police said, but instead of doing so, he stood up. When the man refused to heed to his commands, the officer opened fire and hit the man.

A woman was shot dead by Somerville police after she stabbed three officers this morning, authorities said. The officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The chain of fatal events began with a 3:30 a.m. domestic incident at the Syacamore Terrace home, a neighbor said.

The family of Andreas Chinnery says Hamilton police fired two shots at the 19-year-old at very close range, hitting him in the arm and in the abdomen.

Shortly after officers were called to Chinnery’s Barton Street East apartment Feb. 2, police opened fire, fatally wounding the Hamilton man, who died a short time later in hospital.

MASSAPEQUA, N.Y.  — A police officer was fatally shot by another officer after a confrontation with a knife-wielding man inside a home in a New York City suburb, authorities said Sunday. The suspect also was killed.

Two Kansas City police officers who thought they were being shot at from inside a van returned fire Thursday night. Only later did police realize that the van was actually backfiring and the man inside was not armed. He was not injured by the shots fired by police.
