The National Counterterrorism Center has been granted sweeping new authority to store and monitor massive datasets about innocent Americans.
The guidelines allow the NCTC, for the first time, to keep data about innocent U.S. citizens for up to five years, using “predictive pattern-matching,” to analyze it for suspicious patterns of behavior. The data the counterterrorism center has access to includes “entire government databases—flight records, casino-employee lists, the names of Americans hosting foreign-exchange students and many others.”

I was very excited when I first hear about Diaspora, which in my mind would have been a great alternative to the evil empire that is known as Big Brother, ahem, I mean Facebook which is a CIA front (most people know this by now). I dreamed of an opensource social networking type that gave its users more power. If Diaspora caught on and was easy to use, it could possibly have been a threat to Facebook considering that many people are becoming disillusioned with big government and the complete end to privacy.

You know, the reason “Big Brother Is Watching” is such a famous phrase is because it used to be viewed as paranoid fear mongering to suggest that the government would use some kind of high tech surveillance equipment to monitor the entire population. The book 1984 was viewed as beyond the pale, an impossibility that the American people would never tolerate.

A Florida professor was arrested and removed from a plane Monday after his fellow passengers alerted crew members they thought he had a suspicious package in the overhead compartment.

That "suspicious package" turned out to be keys, a bagel with cream cheese and a hat.

When confronted by the US Airways crew about his "suspicious package," Milatovic got on his cell phone. The crew asked him to hang it up and sit down. When he refused, he was cuffed.

Milatovic was also charged with interfering with the operation of an aircraft.
