Oceanside, CA Police Officer stops open-carry, freedom to record advocate and... actually acts like a civilized human being. Not enough to convince me that we aren't living in a police state, but I think it's worth giving this cop some credit. He allows the open-carry, he almost encourages this guy's right to record the interaction. I'm concerned that guys like this might be making all the rest look good!
Note: It is legal in the state of California to open-carry a firearm as long as it is not loaded.

Open carry is legal in WI. However, the police have other ideas.

"Greg Gunta, a lawyer for the city of Brookfield, says police will continue to respond in force to people with guns. And if it’s a legal open carry, then it’s the cost of doing business."

This is a blog post over at, http://www.copblock.org , that talks about a Maryville police officer who harasses two men for open carrying. The audio is priceless and is a great example of the mindset of officers today, for the most part.

I was detained by the Biddeford, Maine PD on 18AUG2010 for no reason while open carrying and walking down the sidewalk.

As the officer handcuffed the compliant motorist, the officer explained, "I don’t like someone with a gun," while insisting, "You’re not under arrest."

The second statement is an unalloyed lie: Whenever a police officer restrains someone, that person is under arrest. The first statement is a lie by omission: If Pierson had been a police officer, Bassett would not have complained about him carrying a gun. The category of "someone" thus applies only to Mundanes, whose very existence is seen as a threat to the unimaginably precious personages who wear state-issued costumes.

A police officer spots a citizen on a crowded city street with a handgun proudly strapped to his hip. The officer draws his own gun, and asks the gentleman to kindly get on the ground (using slightly stronger language.) The man insists that he has the right to carry his gun openly. Who’s right?

Young civil rights activist arrested after police found him with the M1 carbine strapped to his back. Says he and a girlfriend had gone to see a movie and had some spare time, so he decided to walk around the business district with the rifle to exercise his open carry rights under Michigan law. Police officers all testified that he appeared several years younger than 18. He was arrested "only" after he repeatedly refused to provide identification showing he was of legal age to be carrying a weapon.
